Review of 1000 år – En svensk historia (1980)

Moving picture, 110 minutes

Seen in 2017.

The 1000 years of Swedish history between the mid-1300s and 1980.

People’s history. One of Olle Häger’s productions with Hans Villius. Necessarily superficial at a mere two hours, but nicely put together. I like the sparse period dramatizations, which contain no dialogue and no drama. They’re mixed quite casually with contemporary footage, and for some reason there are several stills from these sessions, implying the production had a minuscule budget. There is just one interview, with an ordinary elderly woman. Excellent narration by Villius, socking it to Gustav Vasa.
