Hartleb stated that with this film he abandoned his original sociological ambition and shifted the focus to individuals, no longer connected to each other. This is mostly unfortunate, but Hartleb has gained some skills, making this and subsequent films relatively comprehensible. There are interesting moments throughout the series, constructed through Hartleb’s impressively gentle interviewing technique and the chaos of ordinary people’s ordinary lives. As a comment to the full suite (1975–2014), I would like to see a complete recut without the frequent retreading.
