Review of “Begone Dull Care” (1949)

Moving picture, 8 minutes

Norman McLaren (director), Evelyn Lambart (director).

An immensely varied flow of imagery to jazz.

Among the greatest of McLaren’s non-mimetic, non-reflexive, totally abstract shorts. It can’t all have been applied directly onto a single film—that would require a flatly absurd amount of talent—yet it almost looks that way.
