Carell does well, but the script occasionally hits levels of atrociousness I can only hope Steve “Kung Pow” Oedekirk had fun throwing out there. It’s as if he was trying to repackage Aguirre’s horrific portrayal of the Christian rape of the world as a Christian children’s comedy, with mind-blowing stupidity in place of the pillaging, and less vicious monkeys.
