Review of Casualties of War (1989)

Moving picture, 113 minutes

Frankie Boyle, a Scottish comedian, has a bit in a stand-up routine (ca. 2015) where he says:

Not only will America go to your country and kill all your people, but what’s worse I think is that they’ll come back 20 years later and make a movie about how killing your people made their soldiers feel sad. America making a movie about what Vietnam did to their soldiers is like a serial killer telling you what stopping suddenly for hitchhikers did to his clutch.

Casualties of War is not that movie. It is about the Vietnam War as an unjustifiable atrocity perpetrated by the USA, in dramatic microcosm. Even so, it is a story told from the perspective of sad US soldiers.
