Review of Detonator Orgun (1991)
The crew of an expedition to an anomaly in the constellation Cygnus returns to Earth after 200 years, greatly changed by relativistic evolution, which is the opposite of how relativity works in real life. One of them, a rebel, bonds with a human in a retro Luftwaffe jacket to repel the invasion.
Generic alien invasion/mecha epic. I watched it mainly for Hirasawa’s music, which is very good. The story is largely nonsensical, and the animated spectacle is not strong enough to make up for it.
