Review of “I huvet på Per Åhlin” (2019)

Moving picture, 59 minutes

Seen in 2019.

The maker and making of I huvet på en gammal gubbe (1968), Dunderklumpen (1974), Mannen som slutade röka (1972), “Sagan om Karl-Bertil Jonssons julafton” (1975), Picassos äventyr (1978), Resan till Melonia (1989), Hundhotellet (2000), Alfons Åberg (1979) and beautiful fragments of the unfinished Hoffmans ögon (1993), an adaptation of The Sandman (1816) intended for mature audiences only.

Simple but sensitively composed. The self-deprecating Åhlin visiting his childhood home after 50 years, tacitly almost leaping at the opportunity to tour the inside and musing afterward on the brevity of life, makes for a moving ending.
