Review of “It Sounded as If the Streets Were Running” (1877)

A good example of a poem that is slightly ambiguous on its own, but clear with one detail of historical context outside the poem. One total solar eclipse happened in Amherst in Dickinson’s lifetime, in 1875. It is therefore parsimonious to conclued that the “Eclipse” she mentions is real and that nothing else is going on.
