Review of “Le Merle” (1959)

Moving picture, 4 minutes

Norman McLaren (director).

A simple stick-figure blackbird loses some part of its body (starting with its beak) and then briefly regains it in triplicate along with all the other parts lost in earlier verses.

“The Blackbird”, a bravura of playful metamorphosis, despite how the visualization of the nonsensical French song is literal-minded.
