Review of Leaving Neverland (2019)

Moving picture, 4.0 hours

Seen in 2019.

It’s an indictment of the megastars, a cultural phenomenon it declares dead. Good riddance. Certainly, most people are more kind than Jackson, but very few will do well with unlimited love and money. It is my interpretation that Jackson’s narcissism just happened to poison his sense of a lost childhood. It’s curious, and queasy, that his victims were so similar to himself: Actors, dancers, last born, few friends, presented with the capitalist pop dream. Giddy with “porn and candy”.
