Review of “Sometimes We Need Stories About the Old Days” (1992)

Text

Miyazaki Hayao (writer).

Read in Starting Point.

As the era we live in began to change, I found myself increasingly perplexed by and reminded of my own stupidity.

A brief afterword to the published form of Tokiniwa mukashi no hanashi o (Sometimes I Want to Hear Stories About the Old Days), a 98-page book by Katō Tokiko from the production of Porco Rosso (1992). Katō played Gina in the film and the title of her book was also used for the song set to the film’s end credits. The afterword expresses mid-life nostalgia, questioning the youthful impulse “not to look back”.
