Review of SubUrbia (1996)

Moving picture, 121 minutes

Seen in 2019.

Very nearly very good. Alas, it is overly dramatic, with multiple scenes brandishing Chekhov’s gun among other redundancies unlikely to be crammed into one Aristotelian night-unit. The script should have been more extensively adapted from stage to screen. Jayce Bartok is unconvincing as Pony while Dina Spybey and Steve Zahn are especially good.
