Review of The Demolished Man (1953)

Text

Alfred Bester (writer).

Read in 2017.

Futuristic orthography and other strained whimsies fail to spice up the inverted locked-room mystery plot. The worldbuilding sounds promising but goes Oedipal. It’s as if Bester wanted to remake Crime and Punishment (1866) with no discernible intellectual content, just flash. Skip the first Hugo winner.
