Review of The Martian (2015)

Moving picture, 144 minutes

Seen in 2024.

The GUI design is awful throughout, the dramaturgy converges on convention, and it’s a self-contradiction within a deliberate factual error to have the Ares IV MAV in place years in advance while knowing that a storm can tip a MAV, which is the unrealistic part. Still, it is wonderfully refreshing to see a Hollywood movie with so much respect for a novel as science-based as Weir’s.
