Review of The Sky Crawlers (2008)

Moving picture, 122 minutes

Oshii Mamoru (director).

Young interceptor pilots in a carefully managed war between corporations—ordered, perhaps, by nations—gradually realize what they are.

Animated feature. Science fiction, maybe. Oshii. Good Kawai music, as usual, and quite effective “puppet-like” mixes of CGI and cel style. Justin Sevakis read this as a commentary on the emptiness of fan culture; I don’t know.
