Review of Tokyo Chorus (1931)

Moving picture, 90 minutes

Ozu Yasujirō (director).

Seen in 2017.

Seen without sound.

An insurance salesman with a master’s degree and a family is fired for standing up for a co-worker.

It’s remarkable how complete Ozu’s style was by this point. Child and adult perspectives on the matter get equal weight, while the childish arrogance of the man is his hamartia.
