Review of Up! (1976)

Moving picture, 80 minutes

Sadly, there is much less effective condemnation here than in Motorpsycho! (1965), which acknowledges the horrors of the patriarchy with regard to rape. This failure does not contribute to Up! as black comedy. I don’t think it is one. Ebert and Meyer’s twists on the baseness of it all (such as the male lead sodomizing Hitler in the opening scenes, or the view from inside a zipper in an “erotic” scene with Švankmajerian sound effects) amuse.
