Review of Wild Yellowstone (2015)

Moving picture

Seen in 2018.

I saw SVT’s Swedish-language version with an interview with Doug Smith.

Mostly charismatic fauna in the park, with a particular emphasis on wolves—reintroduced in the mid-1990s after being purposely eradicated—and violence for reproductive purposes.

Wildlife documentary in the style of a Zack Snyder action movie. Nine lines of credit for stock footage. The writing says more about contemporary American culture than it does about Yellowstone. In one scene, a bear preemptively attacks a suitor to defend her three cubs, whom the suitor would kill; in the choice of this subject, with greasy numetal-inspired “epic” music, I detect a thematic allusion to Sarah Palin’s disingenuous ”mama grizzly” feminism.
