Review of A Mighty Wind (2003)

Moving picture, 91 minutes

A couple of laughs, but what a hideous attempt to recreate the glories of This Is Spinal Tap (1984)! Guest doesn’t make it look like a documentary, more like The Office (2001) or a feeble reality TV comedy of crude embarrassment. The only attempt at intellectual underpinnings is the incongruous talk of child molestation and fetish pornography to indicate a tragic/sleazy background under the moronic gloss of the Main Street Singers. Barely saved by the trio of McKean, Shearer and Guest himself.
