Review of Aikoku Sentai Dai-Nippon (1982)

Moving picture

Seen in 2017.

Youtube, terrible audio, no subtitles.

A present-day superhero version of the Russo-Japanese War.

Super sentai fan parody. Made with tongue in cheek, but predictably dull for me, as I have no interest in sentai. I saw no actual nostalgia here for the historical Dai-Nippon (Empire of Japan, 1868–1947). It would have been neat to find support in this obscure Gainax work for Murakami Takashi’s thesis of WW2 sublimation in Little Boy: The Arts of Japan’s Exploding Subculture (2005) but I did not.
