Review of Alien Worlds (2020)

Moving picture, 168 minutes

Seen in 2022.

Scientifically grounded speculative illustrations of life on four alien worlds.

An ordinary popular-science documentary. The elements of fiction are competently made and appropriately framed, but the production didn’t have enough VFX money so the fiction pieces are brief and lot of the CG cuts get repeated. It’s a bigger problem that if you’re passingly familiar with topics in astrobiology, you’ll hear nothing new in the longer non-fiction segments.

Some of the last scenes take place at Arecibo, apparently shot and edited before the telescope was damaged in mid-2020 and then decommissioned.
