Review of “An Episode of Cathedral History” (1919)

Text

M. R. James (writer).

Read in 2017.

Lacking in both drama and credibility, with tortuously indirect narration. It was a good idea to set a horror story of the undead inside an active cathedral, but although he comes up with more material than Nesbit does in “Man-Size in Marble” (1893), the execution is well below James’s normal level.
