Beverly Hills Cop (1984
)
An early action comedy, spun off from Eddie Murphy’s success in 48 Hrs. (1982). This one more obviously hybridizes a sitcom (lower-class ex-criminal cop out of water in upper-class setting) with an optimistic white-collar criminal drama where, in the end, you simply shoot the rich. Judge Reinhold does an excellent, mellow job deburring the writing.
