Review of Biomimicry (2015)

Moving picture, 120 minutes

Seen in 2020.

This reviews refers to both episodes of this miniseries (“Biochemistry” and “Biogeometry”) with English-language narration.

Video essays on lessons learned from nature, rather than human biomimetic engineering. For example, Alvaro Mendoza—in English translation—marvels at the apparently random yet effective structure of the scales around a crocodile’s mouth, and the similarly random-looking motions of the silkworm weaving its cocoon.

The essays are not bad, but the form is peculiar. All the points would have been stronger with images of human engineering, yet only nature is shown, presumably for reasons of genre.
