Review of “Black Angel” (1980)

Moving picture, 25 minutes

Seen in 2019.

A loose sketch of a medieval battle between supernatural good and evil.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) with 100% more art direction and 100% less comedy. It’s a good effort, admittedly divorced from the history it invokes but less polluted by Ren Faire kitsch than I expected. The mythologizing landscape shots are very nice and the maiden is beautifully John Bauer-esque. The slow-motion duel of short axe versus long mace shows profound ignorance of these weapons.
