Review of Black Swan (2010)

Moving picture, 108 minutes

Seen in 2024.

I appreciate Aronofsky’s artistry, but in this case, he merely decorates a psychological thriller about a controlling parent. Barbara Hershey is excellent in the role of that parent, and Portman’s good too, but the decorations are excessive: Too many hallucinations presented to the viewer as real events, and excessive CGI. By the finale, it’s enough to detract from the strength of the movie’s simple core.
