Review of Blue Velvet (1986)

Moving picture, 120 minutes

David Lynch (writer-director).

A young man returns to his home town and lowers himself beneath its campy all-American exterior. Psychopaths, violence and sex abound.

Dark thriller. In many ways, this is just a better-made alternative to the contemporary Something Wild (1986). Great cinematography and opening, but an insane villain is unattractive. Fargo (1996) is far more effective in delivering the same message.
