Brideshead Revisited (1981)
It’s hard to do nostalgia better. Only the rising religious angle tarnishes it.

Some impressive location shooting. Religion is just as central in this version, but handled marginally less well. It’s anchored by Emma Thompson as Lady Marchmain, who isn’t quite convincing in the role of the zealot. Matthew Goode’s Charles Ryder is simultaneously too self-assured and neatly scripted in the function of the sceptic, considering the character’s age and circumstances.
