Review of Chicken for Linda (2023)

A widow and her daughter fall out on the evening before elementary school is closed for a general strike.

This is a heart-warming comedy with very good direction and acting. The script has a couple of rough edges, but the animation quality really makes the movie stand out. The designs are fairly simple cartoons and the line work is inconsistent, yet the movement and editing are good enough to remind me of Tanabe Osamu. The colour-coding of each character reinforces both their kinships and the themes of diversity and communication between individuals (separate blobs of colour). Even the non-integrated musical interludes are good.
