Review of Genesis 2.0 (2018)

Moving picture, 112 minutes

Seen in 2019.

Siberians dig mammoth tusks out of thawing Arctic permafrost to sell as ivory to the Chinese. One Russian scientist wants to use mammoth blood to bring the animal back. He contacts disgraced former scientist Hwang Woo-suk.

The amateur filmmakers inject themselves inappropriately into a story that would already have been too thin without them. I didn’t expect de-extinction, but this is not even 0.1% of the necessary effort, nor an effective meditation on capitalism or climate change.
