Review of “Hen, His Wife” (1990)

Moving picture, 13 minutes

Seen in 2019.

Arthouse animation. Gloriously weird and dirty. At GIFF 2019, director Igor Kovalyov explained it as a fruit of Perestroika, an early work at a new animation studio he co-founded. The animation is clearly laborious and quite compelling, probably because I was into Klasky Csupo as a child. The plot is murky and closed to interpretation.
