Review of “Her Face Was in a Bed of Hair” (1945)

Text

Emily Dickinson (writer).

Read in 2021.

Dated to its posthumous first publication.

The imagery is covered in a layer of weirdness, but it’s hard to argue against the standard interpretation of this as a lesbian encounter, given the hand whiter than sperm and the tender tongue in the “bed” of hair.
