Review of Hunger (1966)
Faithful enough to the story of the novel, good acting, ambitious cinematography etc., but still a futile attempt for deeper reasons. Hamsun’s Sult (1890) is a novel of psychological interiority, which doesn’t transfer. Pontus emoting in the pawn shop is the only actual attraction added by film.
