Review of Ingeborg Holm (1913)

Moving picture, 96 minutes

Seen in 2016.

I saw one of the first screenings of the digitally restored version, with live accompaniment by Matti Bye and his ensemble.

The 15-year psychological breakdown takes it too far into melodrama, but up to that point it is a brilliant pioneering work of realism and social relevance in world cinema.
