Review of It Might Be an Apple (2013)

Sequential art

Yoshitake Shinsuke (writer-artist).

Read in 2023.

Read in Japanese.

A boy in early elementary school becomes unsure about the apple-looking thing on the table at his house.

I first saw just the cover of this book in a play pen on a trip to Hamamatsu in 2023 and I was so intrigued that I bought a copy of the 78th printing in Tokyo. This children’s book has glorious graphical design, funny philosophical writing, and a particularly lovely example of tabular humour in its list of “apple siblings”, one for every kana in the gojūon.
