Review of Jennifer Government (2003)

A high-concept satire, more superficial than the classics of cyberpunk, and yet my thoughts do sometimes return to Jennifer Government when corporations act like fiefs. For example, a 2018—2019 “Understanding Exercise” at Facebook showed that slave-holders were advertising fake jobs on Facebook to enslave more people. According to The Wall Street Journal, internal documents at Facebook in 2019 showed the company doing too little about this until Apple threatened to ban the Facebook app from Apple phones, a move that would have brought us one step closer out of When Corporations Rule the World (1995) and into the world of Jennifer Government.
