Review of King Creole (1958)

Moving picture, 116 minutes

Seen in 2021.

An overwrought and formulaic Elvis vehicle that whitewashes the “Creole” setting of the title. The funny thing is how it copies Rebel Without a Cause (1955) in the detail that Danny’s rebelliousness is attributed to his father’s quite reasonable softness.
