Review of La nuit des éléphants (2014)

Moving picture, 90 minutes

Seen in 2018.

Seen with English-language narration on SVT, in two parts.

Seasonal elephant migration from Botswana to Zimbabwe, including state-of-the-art nocturnal long-focus cinematography showing the activities of local wildlife as they continue walking through the night.

Inelegant, with a lot of repetition. There is, thankfully, a sequence where the elephants cross a modern village, but this is strangely truncated and chopped up to feature in both episodes. I get the sense that the filmmakers had trouble keeping up with the herds and getting traditionally clean shots, so they made up much of the story in the cutting room.
