Review of Les Misérables (1998)

Moving picture, 134 minutes

Seen in 2024.

An adaptation of the book, not of the musical. It’s still romantic, and pretty thin, but it reminds me of Josée Dayan’s contemporary adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo (1998). It’s got that analog late-1990s charm, complete with Gothenburg actor Reine Brynolfsson’s heavy Swedish accent speaking French in English.
