Review of Like the Clouds, Like the Wind (1990)

Moving picture, 79 minutes

A simple girl in old rural China auditions to be the new empress because she’s not busy and it’s supposed to be a good deal. Two layabouts who help escort her towards the capital get bored during the selection process and start a revolution.

Comedy. Ghibli-esque, especially the very first examination of the girl which feels like bus stop scene from My Neighbor Totoro (1988). Lots of androgyny.
