Review of “Liking What You See: A Documentary” (2002)
Ted Chiang (writer).
Read in 2018.
Public debate around a reversible brain modification that induces “calliagnosia”, the inability to judge the human face aesthetically in an intuitive natural manner.
A fantastic thought experiment: original, elegant, credible and fascinating. Though it is just barely forced into the mould of a narrative, it is very literary, in the sense that it could not be presented in a visual medium.
