The addition of a narrative to the central motif is predictably double-edged. It works out pretty well, except for the trite love story. The comic actors do a lot to keep it on track: Anders Jansson, Sten Elfström and several Varanteatern veterans in cameos. Without them, the triangular bigotry between straight musicians, weird musicians and super-straight police would have felt too sincere: too stale. The protagonist’s bleeding ears are too weird either way.
