Review of “Neighbours” (1952)

Moving picture, 8 minutes

Norman McLaren (writer-director).

An intoxicating flower appears between the property of two men. Not content to share it, they go to war. “Douhou ni shinsetsu nare”.

Live action and glorious stop motion. Tongue-in-cheek morality play. In line with the explicit message from The Bible (ca. 110 CE), the imagery is brutal, including hitting defenceless women with planks and kicking a baby in the head.
