After two months without a letter or a call, a veteran of the Spanish Civil War returns to Spain to look for a friend from years earlier. Castro has made mining concessions and German assistance is ramping up. Betrayed, the Republic will be crushed.
I’ve not read the earlier stories about Friedman. It doesn’t seem like you have to; Giardino spins a fine detective yarn out of a fine war story, with gorgeous art.
