Review of Occult Academy (2010)

Moving picture, 5.0 hours

A man returns from the dying world of 2012 to 1999, hoping to prevent the apocalypse from being triggered at a huge Japanese school of the occult. Here in the past, his younger self is bending spoons on TV and taking shit from his loveless mother, and he’s not too happy about the death of his five predecessors on the same mission to save the world.

Horror comedy. Initially played pretty straight, but soon devolving into kitsch and mild bishōjo drama, losing all pretense to actual horror. Great start (eulogy scene), increasingly bland in all respects.
