Review of Old Yeller (1957)
Seen in 2018.
Children’s Western drama. A series of set pieces with no emotional impact on me as an adult, but it’s easy to see why it touched US Boomers at the time. I abhor the framing. Yet again, the title is sung as it appears, and the songs to the opening and ending credits are supposed to get everybody on the same page. It’s a good example of normative 1950s cultural production for the white nuclear family.
