Review of Praying for Armageddon (2023)

Moving picture, 97 minutes

Seen in 2024.

The Christians United for Israel, Mission M25 and other US groups praying for violence as a sign of the end of the world prophesied in Revelation (ca. 95 CE).

This documentary is to the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack, and the subsequent war, what ’Til Kingdom Come (2020) was to the 2021 crisis: A timely study of the forces in US politics that expect, hope for and encourage conflict between Israel on the one hand and Palestinian militants and their allies on the other. Praying for Armageddon is less polite, but also slightly less nuanced. It cuts together about five years of material, dating it only sparsely. It does include a rabbi working for peace in Israel and Palestine, corresponding to Munther Isaac, but it excludes Hamas, and moderates on both sides.
