Review of “Private 2nd Class Norakuro” (1933)
Seen in 2016.
Seen with recorded benshi narration by Makino Shūichi.
The misadventures of an incompetent dog soldier whose name means “black stray”, in a world of better-behaving white dogs.
Children’s military comedy. Boring except in the context of the study of propaganda and cultural preparedness for war. Interestingly, an eagle that looks just a bit less fierce than the one in “Momotaro’s Sky Adventure” (1931) appears and helps the protagonist, not symbolizing the USA.
