Review of Roots (1977)
An African Muslim is abducted and taken to the land of the free, as a slave. About three generations later, his descendants are freed when the Confederacy falls, but the racist economy has a lot of inertia.
Dramatization of a popular novel based on its author’s ostensible genealogy and concluded with a brief statement by that author. Some uncomfortably long temporal jumps and awkward actor replacements as a result of live action.
