One of the better works combining North American comics traditions with superficial Japanese influences—mainly Takahashi Rumiko—and video-game tropes in the era of the Anime Explosion: The What, Why and Wow of Japanese Animation (2002). It gets by well enough on O’Malley’s passion and lateral thinking.
